I’m really grateful for the time we’ve spent together over the last 10 nights.
The main thing I take home with me is that this Bible Conference is the work of God. Very few places around the world have sustained a conference, 28 sessions, over 10 days; and nowhere in the history of the church is one sustained for 89 years! That is simply the grace of God upon the Chinese Churches.
You are headed in the right direction in the use of technology to bless the churches around. We live in a digital age and to leverage technology for the edification of church is glorifying to God. And in different parts of the world, I see the church rising to recognize the power of technology.
But the third thing that touched me is not just the duration of the conference nor the use of technology, but the emphasis on the Word of God. This emphasis on the Word of God sets this Bible Conference apart from many conferences around the world.
One of the greatest needs of the Church today is solid Bible exposition because ours is already a generation of Biblical illiteracy. Theological roots and moorings have already shifted. And if we are not careful, heresy would abound in the Church.
As my wife and I prayed for the Church of China, our concern is that if they are not rooted in the Word of God, heresy could easily sweep the young converts away.
So, when I witness the emphasis given to the Word of God, it brings great joy to my heart. I pray that you continue this emphasis on Biblical exposition. And to encourage young people to be attuned to the preaching and the receiving of God’s Word.
There is one pastoral encouragement that I want to offer to you.
The key to discipleship is not merely the acquisition of Bible knowledge, but the application of Biblical principles. As we emphasize the Word of God as a church, we shift from just emphasizing Bible knowledge towards emphasizing Bible application as well.
So, a last reminder of Jesus’ last words in His great sermon – the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).
A great manifesto of discipleship, Jesus left the most important teaching to the very last part, given to us in Matthew 7. He told the Parable of the Wise Man and The Foolish Man: the wise man builds his house upon the rock, the foolish man builds his house upon the sand.
We emphasize the Word of God as the solid rock we build upon - but that is not Jesus’ emphasis.
Jesus did not say “those who hear this sayings of mine I will liken him to be a wise man who builds his house on the rock”.
Rather, Jesus said, “those who hear this words of mine and does them I will reckon him to a wise man who builds his house upon the rock”.
So as pastors, as church leaders, let’s mature our church, particularly the next generation, the younger ones, to get them into the Word of God, and to get them to apply the principles of God’s words.
Thank you so much for giving me the privilege these 10 nights to share the Word of God with you.
